Mechanical Pinch Valves

Mechanical Pinch Valves offer complete flow regulation and the highest possible reliability using a mechanical horizontal bar design. AKO makes 3 lines of mechanical pinch valves: the OV, VZ, and RV series.

The horizontal bar inside each mechanical pinch valve can be adjusted with a Handwheel Crank or a Pneumatic Cylinder. In both types, electronic measurement can verify exact flow regulation. The Handwheel Crank mechanical valves are turned by the operator while the Pneumatic Cylinder mechanical valves are adjusted using compressed air. The pneumatic cylinder mechanical pinch valves can be placed in areas not convenient for operator adjustment.

Benefits of Mechanical Pinch Valves

  • Mechanical pinch valves, like all pinch valves, allow the free flow of product without virtually any resistance when fully open, while restricting all flow when closed without any leakage.
  • Their design is inherently simple, offering incredible value with a low total cost of ownership and minimal maintenance cost.
  • Blockage when opening in virtually impossible. Even for applications that crusts or hardens easily. When the operator opens the valve, the inner wall of the sleeve contracts to a cylindrical shape with no resistance. Reliable resumption of flow is one of the greatest benefits for pinch valve owners compared to all other valve options.
  • Mechanical pinch valves, on account of their adjusting screw, offer a non-powdered option that is easy to open and close due to the principles of mechanical advantage amplifying hand-torque power.

Mechanical Pinch Valve Design

Mechanical pinch valves, like air actuated pinch valves, utilize an elastic reinforced rubber sleeve. The pinch valve casing is the frame of the pinch valve, which has a metal horizontal bar that lowers or rises by using an adjusting screw. As the screw goes up or down, that metal bar does the same, thereby restricting or opening the flow of product through the sleeve. The main advantage of mechanical pinch valve design, is that they are inherently simple. AKO’s mechanical pinch valves are simple and of the highest quality among all competitors.

Total Cost of Owning a Mechanical Pinch Valve

Referring to any maintenance of a mechanical pinch valve as frequent would be a misnomer. Over the lifetime of ownership, occasional replacement of the pinch valve sleeve must be done. This occurs when the elasticity or integrity of rubber is compromised, either by age, heat, or abrasion. Replacing the sleeves is rapid (with all parts at hand--not more than a handful of minutes) and requires no special skill, technique, or proprietary tools. Sleeves are affordable; and combined with such minimal maintenance time, total cost of ownership (TCO) is low.

The Special Design of AKO’s Sleeves

Not all pinch valve sleeves are created equally with regards to durability and composition. While other manufacturers may build quality pinch valves, the chemical composition of the rubber is proprietary and refined only for AKO. The trade secret composition of AKO’s rubber, reinforced with an elastic fabric-like mesh yields an ultra-long lasting and abrasive resistant sleeve. The long service-life contributes to a lower total cost of ownership than competing valves. AKO also offers 10 different grades of elasticity in their sleeves. The different grades offer the best life-cycle value depending on the frequency of opening and closing, temperature, abrasion, and installation particulars. Your Basecamp Sales Engineer will be knowledgeable on choosing the right sleeve.
